About the Artist:

Toni Basanta is a world music expert with a long career in radio, music festivals, television and teaching. He was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1955, arrived in Vermont in 2006.  He has been a DJ Host in different radio and TV stations.  Began on the radio in Havana, Cuba, at Radio Metropolitana in July 1989, and collaborated with many radio stations all over the Island, and overseas.  He was the MC at the Havana Jazz Plaza International Festival (1999-2005).

My first radio show in Vermont was in 2007, at UVM = University of Vermont campus radio, WRUV 90.1 FM Burlington. Show name: Global Warming.

A Music Gumbo, featuring Cuban, Latin American, Caribbean, Brazilian, all forms of Jazz, and Local Artists, who also came as guests: musicians Bob Gagnon, Aaron Flynn..., dancer David Larson. Guest host at VPR = Vermont Public Radio, with host George B. Thomas - spinning 4 hours of Cuban Jazz !  Guest on VCAM (now Media Factory) with master banjoist, Indian flutes, and Media Personality Rik Palieri.

Since February 2010, Basanta hosts two radio shows, SABROSO GUARAPO (Delicious Sugar Cane Juice) on THE RADIATOR, a Community Radio in Burlington with 100 watts of fury ! Thursdays 6 - 10 am.  And THE CUBAN BRIDGE at Saint Michael's College's WWPV 92.5 FM  "The Mike"  where he brings new beats to Vermont in his show Sundays 3 - 6 pm.  wwpv.smcvt.edu 

You can also watch him on TV at LCATV Channel 1075 also in Colchester, Vt. where he hosts the HAVANA FAIRFAX CONNECTION - a carnival of music, joy and danceable tunes, with 147 episodes that have been picked up by more than 50 Public Access Channels nationwide.
