Inaugural Baking Food for Talk
Before cookbooks, recipes were passed down from generation to generation, families often continuing traditions around favorite baked goods. In this inaugural bake club meeting, we will focus our discussion on favorite baking recipes and baked goods brought by participants. We will share and sample baked goods, watch a baking demo from The Baking Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum, and discuss what makes for a good recipe in the baking and pastry arts. If you’d like to share a baked good, bring a favorite recipe and baked item to share, either sweet or savory. This can be a recipe from your family or heritage, a recipe you’ve discovered on your own baking journey, or a recipe from The Baking Bible. We will use the sampling of baked goods to discuss what we look for in a recipe, how the desired results can be achieved, and what participants hope to cover in the Food for Talk Baking series. If you’d just like to come to listen and learn, that’s fine, too, baked good contributions are optional.
What to bring: a baked good (optional) and one printed copy of the recipe (so participants can snap a photo)
