Phoenix BooksTM and Onion River Press will host their first virtual event with local author Janice Shade, author of the timely Moving Mountains: The Power of Main Street Americans to Change our Economy.

Shade’s topics of direct local investment and community-based capital are more timely than ever. Her goal with this virtual book tour is to foster the communities we’ve worked so hard to create while providing hope and some practical next steps we can all take to come out of our current health crisis with even stronger, more resilient local economies. As stated in the last sentence of the back cover description, the book is "meant to inspire and shed light on the emerging possibility to create economic justice for all."

Janice Shade is a social entrepreneur, financial innovator, and author with 30 years’ experience building brands, businesses, and movements. After an early career in brand management at Procter & Gamble, Welch’s, and Seventh Generation, she set out to explore new models for conscious commerce and community capital. Since 2006, she has launched or co-founded for-profit and non-profit ventures including TrueBody Products, Milk Money, and Local First Vermont, all of which share common themes of democratic access to capital, economic justice, and local economic resilience. Janice is currently the founder of The Initiative for Local Capital, a non-profit innovation lab; and a founding board member of the National Coalition for Community Capital.

The 45-minute event will take place via Zoom, during which Shade will share stories of women entrepreneurs and their quests for capital, read a bit from her book, and then open up to Q&A. To join the event, participants can get comfy at home with their computer (with webcam activated),  smartphone, or tablet.

This event is free and open to all. Registration via Eventbrite is required and the link can be found on the Phoenix Books Events Page: Here
