Come to the Roxy to join us and film director Huey for a free screening of Henry David Thoreau: Surveyor of the Soul at Merrill’s Roxy Theatre in downtown Burlington. Made over the course of 13 years, Huey’s film masterfully tells the story of Thoreau and the impact that his writings and lifestyle have in our time. The film features scholars, writers, activists, members of the Penobscot Tribal Nation, students in the Walden Project high school program in Vergennes, Vermont, and everyday visitors to Walden Pond who discuss their passion for Thoreau, his legacy, and the impact his writings have on their work and lives and on environmental issues, civil rights and individual thinking in our time. Discussion with the Director will be facilitated by UVM Professor, Robert Pepperman Taylor, Elliott A. Brown Green and Gold Professor of Law, Politics and Political Behavior
Professor Taylor teaches courses in political theory, the history of political thought, American political thought, and environmental political theory. He is the author of The Routledge Philosophy Guidebook to Thoreau’s “Civil Disobedience”.
