Irene Fertik - Photojournalist and author of "From Tesfa to Tikva"
Since 1991, award-winning photographer Irene Fertik has been working on a photo book project, documenting the immigration of Ethiopian Jews to their new, yet ancestral home of Israel. Both in photos and text, Fertik chronicles the story of 25 years of change and transition in her new book "From Tesfa to Tikva: From Hope To Hope". Fertik discusses her research, photography and experiences documenting the challenges and triumphs of Ethiopian Jews in Israel. Books will be available for sale and signing. Light refreshments served.

 

About Irene Fertik

Fertik has been a journeyman photographer for more than 50 years. Her photographs have appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and Time Magazine. She worked a six-year stint as a staff photographer for The Burlington Press, followed by a 15-year period as the staff photographer for The University of Southern California. Her work has been on display at the African American Museum, LA, The Gershman Gallery in Philadelphia, the U.N. in Switzerland, and The Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., among others.  A Philadelphia native, Fertik now lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she continues to free-lance. This is her first book project, 25 years in the making.
