The Friends of the Fletcher Free Library is a 501c3 volunteer organization that supports the mission and the work of the Library. Free library programs are funded through the Friends.
Supporting the Library
The Friends’ Board annually allocates resources to the Library for investment at the discretion of the Library Director. The relationship between the City of Burlington and the Friends is defined in a Memorandum of Understanding (PDF).
Book Donation Guidelines
The Friends appreciate donations of books, CDs, and DVDs in good condition and original packaging, along with collectible older books in reasonable condition.
The Friends cannot accept the following materials:
- Magazines, Encyclopedias, or Dictionaries
- Multi-volume popular sets (such as National Geographic or Time-Life)
- Outdated Business or Computer books (over 10 years old)
- Romance paperbacks (such as Harlequin or Silhouette)
- Abridged books (Reader's Digest, etc.)
- Audio Cassettes or VHS Tapes
- Moldy, musty, or smoky books
- Books with underlining or highlighting
- Books with torn pages, covers, or bindings
Walk-in, Drop-off donations to the Library are limited to 25 books or one armload. Do you want to learn more about book donations OR you want to donate more than 25 books? Please email fletcherfriends@gmail.com. Donations of more than 25 books are welcomed by appointment on Fridays.
Donations of Books & Materials Intended for the Library's Collection
The Library does not usually accept book donations or other item donations for the collection. We kindly ask that all books & materials donations go to the Friends of the Fletcher Free Library. Library staff selectors continually go through donations and may choose items that adhere to the Library's collection policy and add it to the collection. Under special circumstances selectors may choose to consider a gift if it is of special importance or value to the City of Burlington. Our Collection Policy can be found here.
