A chance for youngsters to get up close and friendly with some of the most important instruments used in traditional music. And share the Irish heritage with a new generation, or expand your children’s cultural horizons by creating some Irish-themed crafts. All ages are welcome.
Burlington Irish Heritage Festival - ‘VERMONT’S IRISH REBEL’ BY AUTHOR LIAM MCKONE
Born in Co.Tipperary and buried in Burlington, John Lonergan lived a life that spanned the Great Hunger in Ireland, combat in the American War of the Rebellion, and attacks on Canada when he was the head of the Fenian Brotherhood in Vermont. Liam McKone, author of Lonergan’s biography, will present a quick-march tour of Irish history, the War of the Rebellion, and efforts to restore the independence of Ireland.
Irish Heritage Festival - Boardgames
Tabletop gaming fans will enjoy a chance to play a pre-release game focused on the history and mythology of Ireland, designed by Vermonter Mairead Shields. Players select a legendary Irish hero and travel around Ireland competing in challenges based on events from Irish history and mythology. A unique gaming experience for fans of Irish history, challenging games and beautiful game art!
BIHF Film and Q&A with Director - Dear Dublin
A short piece of charming serendipity set in a beloved green space in South Dublin – from Burlington VT filmmaker Evelyn Gustafson. Ms. Gustafson, who wrote and directed the film, will attend the screening to speak briefly about her experience.
Burlington Irish Heritage Festival Film - Song of the Sea
Song of the Sea follows the story of a 10-year-old Irish boy named Ben who discovers that his mute sister Saoirse, whom he blames for the apparent death of his mother, is a selkie who has to free faerie creatures from the Celtic goddess Macha. The film is the second installment in director and co-producer Tomm Moore’s “Irish Folklore Trilogy”, following his previous film The Secret of Kells (2009) and preceding the film Wolfwalkers (2020).

This will be an informational session for people who have had little or no previous contact with Irish (also known as Gaelic) and are interested in learning more about it.
