Earn volunteer hours this summer while delivering books on bicycles! Books on Bikes BTV is a teen-powered bicycle fleet delivering books to young readers in Burlington in conjunction with Fletcher Free Library’s Summer MegaMix.

A collaboration of the Fletcher Free Library, Burlington Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Dept., YouthBuild, & Old Spokes Home. The aim is to increase literacy, promote the positive power of bicycling, engage readers, & incite teen leadership. You’ve heard of a “little free library,” but have you seen one on wheels?! (Bicycles, helmets, books, & lunch are provided for each ride.)

Registration required! All participants are required to attend a two-part bicycle training protocol on Thursdays, June 15 & 22, 4-6pm.


Operation: Post-It™ Forward
Thursday, July 13, 10:30 - Noon
Transformation can be tiny. Positivity can be powerful. You’ve heard of PostSecret & Operation Beautiful, but have you felt the thrill of leaving encouragement for a complete stranger? Join us as we write & secretly plant Post-It notes in books across Fletcher Free Library & beyond. Are you up for changing the world with one bit of positivity at a time? (Smiles & laughter promised.)

Take sidewalk chalk to the next level -inspire the Burlington community one chalk design at a time! Combining empowering quotations & illustrations, we’ll take to the streets of downtown BTV, & leave our mark. Random acts of kindness meet guerilla positivity.

Are you Fletcher Free Library’s next greatest amateur baker...err, Fletcher Free Library’s next greatest amateur cupcake decorator?! Learn artistic decorating techniques from Vermont’s best & compete to win ... a really long snazzy title & deliciously-themed prizes! (No baking, icing, or cupcake eating experience needed. All materials & delectable things will be provided.)

Wait for it no longer. Have your thoughts been replaced by Hamilton lyrics? We stand- and sing - in solidarity. Don’t throw away shot. Show off your skills! Find your Hamilton kin! Join us for a Hamilton Sing-Along, packed with lyrical delight, prizes, & photobombing opportunities. Come in costume or as you are. The plan is to fan this spark into a flame.  (All ages are welcome to attend.)


Yarn Bomb BTV!
Thursday, August 3, 10:30 - noon
Learn basic knitting techniques and hit the streets, adorning BTV in colorful fibers! Give park benches, street lamps, statues, and more new life. Graffiti as kniffiti!  (No knitting experience necessary. All materials and high fives provided.)


Harry Potter Alliance
4th Saturdays of the month, 2:00 - 3:30pm
Love Harry Potter? Yearning for a way to take action locally? Join Voldemort Can’t Stop the Rock, a chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance! (All ages, a.k.a. a multigenerational community creating awesome.)

The Burlington School Food Project invites you to enjoy nutritious meals at the Library.  All children 18 and under from all towns & communities are welcome!
